Progress
FCI Constructors, based in Durango, is the general contractor on the Cimarron Athletic Field project. Construction on the field began in early March. Currently, FCI has completed clearing, grubbing, preparation of the 18-inch gravel base, and installation of the concrete curb defining the track and field. Asphalt for the track is scheduled to go in in mid-June, and the installation of the track surface and field turf in mid-July.
Construction of the turf soccer field, the all-weather eight-lane track, and dedicated spaces for field events is scheduled to be completed by late August, weather permitting. We look forward to having our first home soccer game in six years in September, as well as the first track meet in the history of Ouray, San Miguel, and San Juan counties.
Representatives of the Ouray School District present a $100,000 contribution to the Ridgway School District in support of the Cimarron Athletic Field project. The Ouray School District will enjoy shared access to the facility for 10 years (or until the next track resurfacing). An intergovernmental agreement is in place, ensuring that athletic directors from both districts will coordinate shared use of the Cimarron Athletic Field for the track and cross-country seasons.
